Maybe you've heard how important is water for your health, figure and well-being many times, but everything your body does it does better with a healthy supply of water, because every system in your body depends on water. Maybe if water was more expensive, people would pay more attention to drink enough of it on a daily basis, instead most of us prefer coffee, lots of soda, and alcohol, not to mention fruit juices and teas and milk and a bunch of other beverages.
You should know that water is one of the best tools for weight loss, because it replaces high-calorie drinks like soda, juice, and alcohol with a drink that doesn't have any calories. Water is a great appetite suppressant, and often when we think we're hungry, we are actually just thirsty. By flushing out toxins and impurities, water can make your skin clearer, smoother and younger looking.
Drinking water moisturizes your skin from the inside out and clear up your skin. People often report a healthy glow after drinking water. It will not happen overnight, of course, but just a week of drinking a healthy amount of water can have good effects on your skin. Water is important to keep you skin smooth and delicate. Water is the single most important element for cellular integrity. Nothing will improve the appearance of your skin better than drinking enough water.
To make sure that you are getting enough water everyday, use simple tips below:
- Carry water with you everywhere you go in a bottle. Try getting a cool water bottle that you enjoy having around; it makes drinking water more fun.
- Keep a glass of water next to you whenever you'll be sitting down for a long time, such as when you are at your desk at work. Drink from it regularly as you are working.
- Add lemons or limes to your water, it makes it taste better and makes you want to drink more of it. Also, you can add some mint leaves to a pitcher of water, which should be allowed to sit overnight.
- Try drinking cold water out of a glass instead of a plastic or paper cup. The glass will retain the cold better than other materials and will keep your water crisp and fresh-tasting longer. If you don't like the taste of cold water, try hot water. It's a different taste and it feels good on your throat.
It’s a pity people spend so much money on different commercial products, while ignoring the cheapest and most effective one - water. Sufficient water intake prevents dehydration, cleans out the body, and promotes healing processes. Body is 90 percent water and needs it for digestion, healthy skin, blood circulation, temperature control and lots of other reasons. Drink your water! Have beautiful skin and stay healthy!

Hi Carol,
Glad to see your post but did want to comment that the body is more like 65 or 70% water. And chlorinated water, such as that we get from our municipal supplies has been directly linked to cancer. Half of our water consumption in a day comes from the shower.
So I would add to your comment that drinking filtered or purified water achieves the healthy skin and even weight loss you suggest.
You can learn much more about water and how to make it healthy on my website at http://www.cleanairpurewater.com
Thanks for the opportunity to comment.
Jim
I agree with you, because a regular diet and exercise program is important for regular bowel function. Eat a high-fiber diet and drink plenty of liquids (six to eight glasses) each day.
As an M.D., I feel compelled to point out that there can be health problems from drinking too much water (hyponatremia or 'water poisoning', worsening of congestive heart failure, etc.). Although I agree with drinking water in place of soda, juice, etc., for the lower caloric content, there simply is NO truth to the myth that you need 6-8 glasses of water per day. Moderation is key...
The problem with water is people believe firmly they need to drink more, or aren't drinking enough.
Too much water can actually be bad for you, causing a type of poisoning that only occurs with extreme amounts [and I do mean extreme amounts of water].
Not enough and you could suffer from dehydration, among other things.
A person needs to, on average, consume 8 glasses of water a day. This is common knowledge, most people are told this in primary school in one class or another, but they don't say where the water all comes from.
The first, and most obvious source, is the water in a tap, or bottled.
Then there's the water you get in the apples, oranges, bananas, steak, pork, fats, and just about anything you eat, on varying levels.
Granted, the water in a pork chop is far less than the water in say, an orange, but it's still there.
The final source would be from "Bad foods" like coffee, or sofa. There is still water in it, but it's not as beneficial.
Counting all things, most people usually only need to drink two, maybe three glasses of water a day, unless you are actually thirsty.
Incidentally, water also curbs hunger, since it voids your stomach. Food for thought.
I don't agree with regularly drinking cold liquids. This practice is quite common in North America for some reason, but chilling the body is not good for your health. Ideally, you should drink liquids that are at least room temperature, if not higher.
I definitely agree that drinking more water helps your skin. I drink about 5 to 8 glasses a day and my skin is very clear. When I switch to pop and energy drinks I sometimes break out. Whether or not that's a coincidence due to the stress or the pop, I'm not sure.
Every single point you listed - including the main one, that it's good for your skin - has been disproven NUMEROUS times by various medical studies. Water is not a weightloss tool. It does not have any calories or flavor so it does not trigger the satiety receptor in the brain. I'll give you that it replaces high calorie drinks with a zero cal alternative, but most of the other stuff is bunk.
I've been drinking between 2 and 3 litres of fresh, cold bottled water every day for the past 2 months or so.
I've lost an inch off my waist (I wasn't overweight anyway but it's got rid of the slight podge), my skin is 100% clear now (for the first time since I was 16 - I'm now 32!!). And beleive me, I've tried just about everything, and this was the only thing that really worked!!
Plus with the drinking more water I stopped snacking on stuff from the vendor while at work, or drinking diet cola or squash - although yeah, it's still nice for a change!!
I actually feel so much better because of it. It really works, it's so simple, and it's made me feel 100% better :)
Bottled water is already more expensive than gasoline - how high do you want the price to go in order to get people to pay more attention to it?
How the hell can drinking cold liquids be bad for you?
At worst, it means your body expends a little more energy getting back to its regular temperature.
I also want to take up the point on cold water. Why make it cold? Your body just expends energy on bringing it up to body temperature as it processes the water.
Reduce your energy waste from 1) artificially cooling it in the first place and 2) having your body heat it back up again anyway.
There is a better ALTERNATIVE to having a high price to get more attention to water and that is to lower the prices of ALL other food related products. This way water will be as expensive as anything else, but the price wouldn't rise.
wouldn't expending more energy to raise the temp of cold water actually use calories? maybe im just playing devil's advocate.
the point about drinking cold water - i believe the whole purpose is simply to suggest ways that may encourage one to drink more water.
if you don't like drinking cold drinks, or believe it to be harmful, then don't drink it cold. but some people out there do prefer to drink beverages nicely chilled, and that's their choice, so long as they are getting a healthy volume daily.
as for raising the price of water - i also don't know what that would accomplish.
like pretty much all things in life, moderation is the key. the point is, however, that too many of the general masses don't get enough water on a day-to-day basis, and it pays to be informed.
I agree that water is very good your us and more people should drink it. However.. I drink pretty much only water (have never drunk alcohol, tea, or coffee and gave up other drinks as I left childhood behind) and still have awful skin. Some things are sadly hereditary!
Actually, cold water IS bad for you, at least a little bit. I'm talking about extremely cold water (almost freezing). It's a shock to your body and liver. It's almost like putting an ice cube inside your body.
It's not going to kill you immediately or make you sick, but it is more work for your body to do, and ultimately more stress on those organs over time. If you don't believe me, go ask a doctor.
here is the right indicator.
as long as you do not pee clear, drink water.
hyponatremia is from a lack of sodium in the body, not from drinking too much water... though it CAUSES water intoxication, it's not the same thing,
Is there any medical mumbo jumbo to back this up?
@ david,
LOL. I think that's a good indicator too.
nice post!
however, even though water is good for you and for the skin etc, i was wondering whether minaral water is better or distilled water?
i've heard people say that distilled water is not good for drinking? is that true? or will it still have the same affect as drinking mineral water?
How about Vitamin/Life Water?
Any upsides/downsides on that?
Sorry - but you're presenting hearsay as medical fact. There's no basis to what you're saying at all.
If you ask any doctor he/she will tell you that as long as you drink when you're thirsty, you're fine. Force-feeding yourself however many extra glasses of water a day will have absolutely no effect on your body/skin whatsoever.
8 glasses a day? How can you generalize on that level? It depends entirely on how much exercise you are getting, your environment, and many other factors.
This whole thing is a myth perpetrated by so-called pseudo health 'experts'.
Also - Sweetwater - Chlorine has never been linked to cancer, unless of course you drink it in huge, concentrated amounts. Find me just 1 reliable medical citation to that effect. 100% baloney.
Honestly - the amount of bad science people pass off as fact is staggering.
Drink responsibly!
Don't forget Overhydration (http://www.answers.com/overhydration), which can cause "brain damage, seizures, or coma" amongst other things.
@sweetwater/jim: "And chlorinated water, such as that we get from our municipal supplies has been directly linked to cancer." [citation needed]
Seriously, where has that been shown in any peer-reviewed scientific or medical journals? You can't just make statements like that without evidence. And I mean real evidence, not just some random talking head you've gotten to say "Yep, it sure does cause cancer!" I'm willing to believe it if the evidence backs it up, but you've offered absolutely no empirical evidence to support your statement.
The body's sodium potassium balance is vital for the production of vitamin d and the storage of calcium.
I dont drink anything but green tea and warm water. I have one cup of green tea a day, and 2-3 small cups of water a day.
I have read health books which have praised the consumption of water between 6-10 glasses a day. When I was doing this, in conjunction with diet of high potassium foods (raw fruits and veg), I felt about as bad as I ever have in my life.
I was constantly cold and irritable.
You must balance the yin and the yang. heating and cooling.
Do not drink 6-8 glasses a day consistently. choose one daya week which you would like to flush your body out. eat less food on this day.
If you are getting sun on 40% of your body for 30 minutes a day, you can eat salads and some raw foods. if you are in doors all day, you should eat more salty foods, such as soups and stews, especially if you are getting cold or shivering at all.
Supplement with a teaspoon of celtic sea salt several times a day if you suffer from low sodium, until your body temperature regulates.
When you have too much potassium and not enough sodium, you kidneys stop producing vitamin d, the food you eat tells your kidneys whether you are out in the sun or not. Lack of vitamin d leads to low calcium, which causes your illeocecal valve to break down. this valve connects the small and large intestines. Yeast will begin to grow in the small intestines when this happens, and the yest will produce toxins and alcohols which will cause liver overload and psychological problems.
Eat according to your climate and the amount of direct sun you are absorbing. if you have naturally dark skin you need more vitamin d from the sun than most people with fair skin.
fasting may seem great when you are doing it, but when you begin eating, all the toxins that have come out of your intestinal walls are now autointoxicating you at large amounts. So dont fast unless you have eaten only organic foods (cooked and salted with celtic sea salt) for several months. this way your body is very clean and the toxins that come out after a fast will be handled. dont fast more than 1 day at this point.
make sure to focus on balancing your body's ph as well. consume acidophilus and supplement with apple cider vinegar, a teaspoon or 2 per day in small glass of water.
A body that is acidic will allow yeast to grow. The human body is naturally alkaline, however, if you have a lot of mercury amalgam fillings then then have released into you consistently since they were put in your mouth, and accumulated all over you. mercury will disrupt your intestinal ph and make it acidic. yeast grows in this invironment, and turns into alcohol when one consumes sugars. This results in psychological problems.
See a naturalpath doctor who specializes in chelation and have those mercury fillings removed right away, and done so safely (with an oxygen mask and a rubber dam).

Another tirade of complete new age, bad science clap trap, presented as fact.
LOL at all these chumps saying water leads to cancer. Losers.
Water = good
Drink when you feel thirsty and there will be no problems.
Your suggestions on water are totally, 100% absolutely agreeable. I've suffered from dark patches, eczema and blemishes all my life. Now that I'm 37 years of age, I've started drinking more water, about 6-8 glasses per day, and within one months time, my skin began to clear up. Honey, bump the naysayers, I'm a witness, water works for clear skin.
I have acne relly bad does anyone knoe what i can use?
I've noticed the more water I drink the clearer my skin has become. My eyes also look alot brighter. I don't care what anyone says, water is good for you. Like anything else, in moderation it has benefits. End of Story.
My only question for everyone that drank more water for clearer skin, did you maybe cut down on the sugar intake in sodas by replacing them with water? Sometimes there is more than one reason that contributes to a healthier body.
hahahaha why are some people saying water is bad!?! The most natural thing that has given life to everything on this earth and is part of God's creation which has been given to us to survive on!! Just drink it please ...
Omar
I agree with Omar, water is the reason for life on earth, one of the sweetest and purest substances. Just imagine if you were stranded in a hot desert...the drink which you would most want is pure water and only water...not soda, juice, milk, wine or anything...but that life essential, most mysterious precious life giving thing that man cannot make...water
